A family research project into the Steiner family from villages in the Tepla Monastery area of Bohemia (present day Czech Republic) to the village of Charlesburg, Town of Brothertown, Calumet County evolved to encompass a growing number of immigrants. The site offers resources for descendants of Wisconsin’s early settlers from Western Bohemia, and provides contextual information on how these people lived both in Bohemia and in Calumet County, Wisconsin. The purpose of the German Interest Group – Wisconsin (GIG) is to educate and support its members with their German genealogical research. The GIG sponsors monthly evening meetings with speakers and an annual workshop.

Founded in 1852, the Madison Männerchor is the oldest German singing organization in Wisconsin, and the second oldest in the United States. Their goal is the perpetuation of choral music (both German and American), German culture, and Gemütlichkeit.
