Description:
One of America’s most visible yet often misunderstood religious groups are the Old Order Amish. In this presentation, we will explore basic facts about the faith and life of the Amish, including in Wisconsin, which has the fourth highest Amish population in the US. The presenter will be Professor Mark Louden, co-director of the Max Kade Institute for German-American studies and a faculty member in the Department of German, the Center for Jewish Studies, and the Religious Studies Program. Professor Louden is also a Mennonite and a fluent speaker of Pennsylvania Dutch, the main language of the Amish.
