Description:

Most German immigrants settled in America’s northern states, and most of the German Americans who took part in the American Civil War fought on the side of the Union. Focusing on three cities—Richmond, Charleston, and New Orleans—this lecture examines the role of ethnic Germans in the nineteenth-century American South, particularly during the Civil War era.
