Nineteenth-century German-speaking immigrants who settled in Wisconsin, came from many different states and cultural regions. They spoke different dialects and had different traditions. This lecture will focus on how their experiences in Europe shaped the communities they built in Wisconsin, and how over time, German-American identities were forged.
