This four-session workshop covers the following topics:

  1. “All I know is they were from Germany:” finding and pinpointing your ancestor’s hometown in Europe; exploring the ways your ancestors travelled to America
  2. Overview of German-language resources in America, including resources at the Max Kade Institute
  3. “Finding Documents in Germany/ Europe, Online and Off:” overview of archival, communal, and church based resources
  4. “Working with historic (German) documents:” strategies to efficiently interpret different types of historic German documents, even if you do not speak the language and cannot read the script
