Description:
2011 is the sesquicentennial of the inauguration of President Lincoln and the first shots fired in the U.S. Civil War. MKI will mark the occasion by hosting a symposium to examine the time before, during, and directly after the Civil War from a unique angle, focusing on immigrants (especially those from German lands) and the global impact of the war (especially within German-speaking Europe).
Funding for this conference was provided by the UW-Madison College of Letters and Science Anonymous Fund and the UW-Madison College Lectures Committee.
