Performing Groups

Yid Vicious (Madison, WI) despite its name, plays a fairly traditional brand of klezmer, the traditional instrumental folk music of Yiddish culture. The group, considered Madison's and maybe all of Wisconsin's premier klezmer ensemble, includes clarinet, fiddle, trumpet, saxophones, percussion, guitars, and upright bass. They will perform on Thursday, September 12th in the Lakefront Room of the Memorial Union from 7:00 pm–9:00 pm.

Monroe Swiss Singers (Monroe, WI) is a group of fifty musicians whose performances include Swiss folk music, yodeling, and alpenhorn blowing. They will complement their performance by explaining Swiss folk traditions in America. They will perform on Saturday, September 14th in the Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union from 6:00 pm–7:00 pm.

Madison Männerchor (Madison, WI), a group of thirty singers, reflects the German tradition of male choirs. They will perform a collection of traditional German Volkslieder (folk songs) as well as sacred songs. They will perform on Saturday, September 14th in the Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union from 7:15 pm –8:15 pm.

The Jerry Schneider Band (Chilton,WI) plays German or Dutchman-style polka music. Jerry Schneider will also give an overview of the tradition of their music and the acculturation of polka in the Midwest. They will perform on Saturday, September 14th in the Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union from 8:30 pm–10:00 pm.
